Privacy Statement (Version 1.00 - 07.Jul.2002)

This document is divided in two parts.

The first part applies completely for the public part for which the URI starts with "http://www.microcortex.com/" and also applies to the secured part for which the URI starts with "https://www.microcortex.com/".

The second part applies to particularities which apply only to the secured part for which the URI starts with "https://www.microcortex.com/" (encrypted connection, HTTPS).

Part I (applies to HTTP and HTTPS)

• Type of data collected
  • IP address of the host which contacted our server.
    This might be the host which originated the request or a proxy server or another type of gateway.
    Example: 193.136.177.1
  • The time when the request concluded.
    Example: 06/May/2002:14:50:53 +0100
  • The request.
    Example: GET /InfoLinks/InfoLinks.php3 HTTP/1.0
  • The referrer.
    This is the URI which your browser reports having been referred from.
    Example: http://www.microcortex.com/
    which means that "http://www.microcortex.com/" was accessed first and the user clicked in this page the URL "/InfoLinks/".
  • The User-Agent, so your browser specification.
    Example: Mozilla/4.0 (compatible; MSIE 5.5; Windows 98; Win 9x 4.90)
• Use of the collected data
  • IP addresses are resolved to host names where possible.
  • The referrer is used to evaluate the entry to our site.
  • The information about the browser is not used.
  • In general, we would like to understand who is interested in our site.
• Sharing the data
  This data is used only in-house and is not shared with any person not directly affiliated with microCortex. Affiliated is restricted to employees and members.

Part II (applies to HTTPS)

• Type of data collected additionally
  • Temporary cookies.
    This means that the cookie is lost when you close your browser.
  • The data you gave on registration.
    • "Login name"
      This is a name chosen arbitrarily by the user.
    • "Password"
      This is chosen arbitrarily by the user.
      It is stored encrypted.
    • "Challenge"
      This is chosen arbitrarily by the user.
      It is stored as clear text.
    • "Challenge reply"
      This is chosen arbitrarily by the user.
      It is stored encrypted.
    • "E-mail"
      This is an email address given by the user.
    • "Real name"
      This is a name chosen arbitrarily by the user for microCortex to address the user in contacts.
  • Time of log on and log off.
  • The data you gave for identification of your ANN.
    • The name of the ANN.
      This is a name chosen arbitrarily by the user.
    • The description of the ANN.
      This is chosen arbitrarily by the user.
    • An associated ID to identify the ANN.
      This is a name chosen automatically.
  • Time and ANN ID used.
  • Number of input lines in a prediction.
  • CPU time for training and prediction.
  • The data used for training the ANN.
• Use of the collected data
  • The cookies are set on entry to the secured part and are used to identify the user after log on.
  • "Login name", the page accessed, the ID of the ANN used, log on and log off are logged with the respective time.
  • The email address is only used to inform the user of the start of the training of the ANN, the conclusion of the training and other administrative contacts.
  • The "Real name" is only used to address the user in administrative contacts.
  • "Password" and "Challenge reply" are stored encrypted with an md5 algorithm, which means that the microCortex staff has no access to the real password, except for guessing, which is very unlikely.
  • The "Challenge" is only used by the user himself in order to reset his "Password".
  • The data used for training might be copied to be used for testing purposes. We will never try to evaluate the data or its nature, unless requested by the apparent owner of the data.
  • The name and the description of the ANN are not used.
  • The number of input lines in a prediction and the CPU time used are processed to evaluate the machine load related to the user.
